This uniquely designed café is on the Suthep Road end of Nimmahemin Road, the opposite end from Huay Kaew. From Suthep Road, you need to turn right on to Nimman and then immediately left in to the Chiang Mai University Arts Centre and you will see the Mud Hut over to the right.
It is quite a fascinating place, not just for the distinctive building but there is generally an authentic quirkiness to the place. It’s an interesting and comfortable place to be. There are wooden tables as well as relaxed floor seating, and there are cute and friendly resident cats that you can play with.
I am also a big fan of the menu as it isn’t your typical fayre. There are some interesting Japanese inspired dishes on the menu which are all very tasty and there is a cross over with western food as well. The mushroom sandwich is very popular which comes as a set with a soup dish and a tea, as do many of the dishes featured here.
Most of the dishes, although not all, are completely vegan.
There is also a huge number of things that you can buy here. Food products such as almond milk, teas and coffees, vegan cookies and more. There are also bathroom products, scarves, coasters, trinkets and even jewellery.
I found myself wishing that they were open a bit later as a 6PM close make it a bit early for a proper dinner.
Frequented by locals, foreign residents and tourists, this place is deservedly popular.
