If you are staying or living in Chiang Mai for any length of time you might want to consider a trip to Chiang Dao and I would recommend that you do. Chiang Dao is a mountain about one and a half hour's drive North of Chiang Mai. It is well worth the overnight trip to escape some of the heat and see the beautiful landscapes and scenery, temples and the famous cave, and also to try some of the delicious vegetarian food that is available at Chiang Dao Nest 1 and 2.

 

Both of these Guest House and restaurants are in beautiful locations with stunning views. Chiang Dao Nest 1 is more popular and the restaurant is famous for it's award-winning cuisine. The western food here is fantastic and during the day, vegetarians are catered for extremely well with plenty of options. (I should point out though, that the evening menu, only has one or two vegetarian dishes, which can't really be made vegan.) Throughout the day though, vegans can also be accommodated and I was personally very impressed with their vegan breakfast, which is available all day until 4.30 PM in the afternoon.

 

If you prefer Thai food, and you are vegan, you might prefer The Nest 2 which has a whole page of Thai vegan dishes and is also slightly cheaper.

 

A small thing, but I really appreciated it, is that you'll always get a free jug of water with your meal. In fact, water is free flowing here. Even staying at the resort, you can fill up your water bottle in the restaurant for free. It is their policy. Drinking water should be free. Good policy.

 

My personal preference is to eat Chiang Dao Nest 2 in the evening and then have the vegan breakfast at Chiang Dao Nest 1 the next day. Please choose your own way, but don't miss out on this opportunity!
