Lampang province is about 100 kilometres south of Chiang Mai. At first it might seem like quite a sleepy place but it's actually a pretty buzzing city. A number of tourists do actually visit this province. There are a number of good spots to be found. Riverside Guest House and Restaurant is one of them. 

The Guest House is right on the river and has a small cafe in a pleasant sitting. Here they just offer drinks and snacks but walk down to the main restaurant just a few metres away where you can have a good feed and a good time. The restaurant has live music every night in the lower floor. On the upper flooring you can sit and watch the river or the restaurant's activity while eating, drinking and listening to the music.

Lampang has several small Thai style vegetarian stores that all close in the afternoon. This restaurant isn't solely vegetarian but the menu has a whole page of vegetarian dishes which are mostly vegan by default. There are plenty more vegetarian options scattered through the menu as well. We absolutely love the fact that they boldly state in the menu that any dish can be made for vegetarians. Every restaurant should be stating this in their menu! Thai food can very easily be made vegetarian and vegan which a lot of people who come here may not realise when they look at a menu and don't see a vegetarian option.

Riverside offers a very pleasant atmosphere with the live music and a mix of locals and tourists amongst the customers. It is a great place to spend an evening. The menu is varied, with both Thai and Western food, the vegetarian curries such as the yellow or green curry taste fantastic. My only complaint would be that they never have brown rice even though they offer it is in the menu.

Visit Lampang for a nice overnight trip from Chiang Mai and have an evening enjoying the food, music and ambience at Riverside.
