There are many places in Chiang Mai where you can buy pancakes which are of course almost always vegetarian but what about vegan pancakes? Here are five places that I know of that do vegan pancakes and are written here in order of preference, with a short description of what each place offers.
5. Blue Diamond
Blue Diamond does a decent enough pancake but for us it was pretty uninspiring. It was just a plain pancake with a choice of fruit inside. Average in size and quality but nothing about it that particularly stood out, this would probably be our last choice for a vegan pancake fix.
4. Morning Glory
Morning Glory’s pancake is a slight improvement on Blue Diamond’s one although it is smaller you do at least get some things to add to it on the side such as fruit and syrup.
3. Bodhi Tree
Bodhi Tree offers a vegan pancake which is something a bit different from the others. It is dark in colour and is made with seeds and wholemeal flour and tastes pretty good. They also serve vegan yoghurt on the side as well as maple syrup. If you want a reasonably healthy option this might be a good bet.
2. May Kaidee’s
The pancake served up at May Kaidee’s is pretty special. You get it served with coconut cream as well as fruit which make it a pure delight, although perhaps a little more indulgent and not quite as guilt-free as the former three.
1. Free Bird
The pancakes at Free Bird have it all. They are absolutely huge in size similar to that of a small pizza! They are so fluffy yet filling. They offer a few different kinds and you could go for the plain fruit mixed one which is served with fruit and syrup (not honey!) on the side or you could go for their trail mix pancake which even has vegan chocolate chips in it as well as other healthier additions – making it our favourite joint for a filling and satisfying vegan pancake.
Which place is your favourite for a vegan pancake? Any place on here that I haven’t listed? Please let me know in the comments! Thanks!
